Recommended for working teachers

Active Membership

For those professionally engaged in music teaching. Active members may vote in MTNA elections, hold office, and enter students in MTNA Competitions — the most prestigious student music competitions in the country.

Senior discount: Active Members age 70+ receive 25% off national dues.

Collegiate Membership

Open to college music students who are also members of an affiliated state association. Collegiate members enjoy all membership benefits but cannot vote, hold office, or enter students in competitions. Membership year: October 1 – September 30.

Retired Membership

Available to members age 65+ with 20+ years of continuous MTNA membership. Contact PMTNM or MTNA national headquarters to request retired status.

Membership FAQ

Do I need to join PMTNM separately from MTNA?
No. When you join MTNA as a New Mexico member, your PMTNM (state) dues are included automatically. You select your state during the national MTNA application.
What does it cost?
MTNA national dues vary by membership type. State (PMTNM) and local chapter dues are added. Current pricing is maintained at mtna.org — PMTNM does not control national dues amounts.
Can I enter my students in MTNA competitions immediately after joining?
Yes. Active members in good standing may enter students in MTNA Competitions beginning with the competition cycle that follows their joining date.
Do I need to be a member to be listed in the teacher directory?
Yes. The PMTNM teacher directory is limited to current MTNA Active members in New Mexico. NCTM-certified members are automatically listed and prominently marked.
I graduated recently. Is there a discount?
Yes. MTNA offers graduating collegiate members 50% off national dues for their first year of Active membership. Contact MTNA national headquarters to request the Young Professional discount.
